After many years forging my own tools I have finally started making my own spoon knife for sale. The are made from an excellent high alloy steel, very hard and tough so they hold an edge for a long time. They come razor sharp and ready to use. The handles are beech and around 7.5″ long. This is a little longer than most knifemakers use and I find it allows a greater range of grips to be used efficiently.
This is the left handed blade with a compound gradually tightening curve that I find a good all round shape for everything from shallow spoons to ladles and kuksas. If I am only spoon carving I tend to use the open sweep hook.

And whilst the knives come razor sharp and ready to use eventually you will need to sharpen it yourself. This video shows the method I use.
