A well designed wooden spoon should be a deleight to use; fitting the hand and the mouth, pan or bowl depending if it is for eating, cooking or serving. It should also be pleasing to the eye and not too heavy to be cumbersome, nor too weak to break. With a knowledge of the strengths of the grain of the wood and building on the best designs from many centuries I hope we can offer here spoons which are beautiful and functional and which will last for many years daily use.
Spoon carving is time consuming, we use no power tools only an axe and sharp knives. All our spoons are finished without sandpaper, the surface being created by hundreds of small cuts with an extremely sharp knife. This is requires more skill and time but the result is a spoon which can be washed and dried without the grain raising and becoming "furry" as is common with a sanded surface.
It is our winter hobby, I work in front of the fire in the evening roughing the spoons out and my wife Nicola refines the form and finishes them. We make less than a hundred a year. We hope that people enjoy using them as much as we enjoy making them.
NEW We now offer courses in greenwood carving with knives and axes, from basic tool skills for the beginner to advanced techniques and spoon design for those with more experience <CLICK HERE> for full details ...

traditional eating spoon
Traditional eating spoon £23
Our standard design of eating spoon is based on traditional Swedish spoons which use the strengths of the wood to the best advantage. Mostly we use sycamore which is close grained, hard and withstands regular washing well.
cranked eating spoon
Cranked eating spoon £25
Based on a very old Swedish spoon which had seen many years use. These are cut from a thicker piece of wood which allows us to crank the handle more, making them very comfortable to use when scraping the base of a deep breakfast bowl.
Lubeck spoons
Lubeck spoon £25
This attractive design with an octagonal handle, is based on a Medieval spoon I saw in Lubeck, North Germany.
mary rose spoons
'Mary Rose' £23
Based on the spoons found aboard the Tudor warship. Not a fantastic design, but made if you want an authentic replica.
