Ridley Scott’s bowls and the worshipful company of turners

I have been busy in the workshop making bowls for Ridley Scott’s “Nottingham” film. Here are some of them stacked and drying, they are made from alder which was very commonly used in medieval times, it is white when you turn it then oxidises quite quickly to this orange colour.

On Tuesday I went to London for the day to judge the biennial competitions of the Worshipful Company of Turners of London, it was a busy day and we had about £5,000 worth of prize money to hand out. Unfortunately I was so busy I didn’t take pictures but if I can find someone else who did I will post them later. I also took some mazers and quaiches down which are on display for the rest of this week as part of the “wizardry in wood” exhibition.
