Jojo’s first go in the forge

Last week was half term and Jojo wanted to have a go in the forge at making a woodcarving knife for herself. I was busy turning but able to pop across and give advice from time to time but she pretty much just got on with it.

In the forge

The first rough forged knife, she made 3

Rough grinding on the belt sander

Grinding the bevels on the Tormek

And the finished blade after hardening and tempering

She chose this lump of laburnum to make a handle and axed a blank out, did some sketches for the shape and tomorrow will be putting it together.

You have such incredibly gifted children! What a wonderful thing to be able to do. I’m very jealous.
