Here is a preview of great article on spooncarving by my friend Jon Henley meeting my other friend Barn Carder coming out this Saturday in the Guardian.
“You risk – there’s no getting around it – a bit of a ribbing when you say you’re going to learn to carve a wooden spoon. “A spoon?” is, at any rate, the mildly incredulous general reaction round my office. “You must be joking. Isn’t there anything more, I don’t know … useful? Aesthetically pleasing?”
They have no idea, these people. There are, as I am soon to discover, very few things at once as useful and as aesthetically pleasing as a well-made wooden spoon. And making a wooden spoon, as well as I can, turns out to be one of the most satisfying things I’ve done in a long while.”

i can’t believe this guy got grief from adults about spoon carving. I mean, i’ve been yelling at some kid online who’s made some comments on a Barn video…..idk..i’m just sick of it. i’m mildly displeased to see he even opened his article by giving such ignorant thoughts notice….but i guess that’s how you talk to the masses. So insecure in their ignorance that they can’t help but be blindly faithful to arrogance.
But..that’s why i still love you ,Mr.Wood. You are a great ambassador for sophisticated crafts.
