I was sent this gorgeous turned wooden artefact by a friend who deals in Chinese antiques. For much of it’s life it was a lunch box. It tells me much about the Chinese that a vessel of such small capacity serves for lunch. They are apparently filled with a ball of rice and taken out to work. I loved the vessel dearly but I try not to keep things in a museum setting. I know from past experience that the things I get most pleasure from are the things I use daily, it has taken 6 months for me to find the perfect place for this vessel in my life but now I have found it I am deeply happy. I have been looking for some time for a nice salt container, I don’t know why it took me so long to realise this was it. It holds a box of malden sea salt perfectly and the fluff white flakes remind me of the fluffy white rice it once held.

Beautiful piece and a very good repurpose. While it could bring pleasure to the eye if displayed, it will please the soul every time you hold it.
