Last day of work playing with Trevor’s fly press

Well 2016 has been an amazing year for us. We have made so many tools for other woodworkers, particularly axes and hook knives for spooncarvers. 2017 is going to start off well too. Today we finally got the tooling fitted to the old fly press I bought from the workshop of Trevor Ablett and Reg Cooper. A bit of old Sheffield come to find a new life in Edale. For our last day of work before xmas My apprentice Zak and I got the press working and had a play. img_0598

Up to this point I have bent all my hook tools by hand and eye. This press and the tools we have had made for it will help us to make the hooks much more regular and precise and every time I use it I will think of old Trevor and the happy times I shared in his workshop.
