This morning started with a radio interview at 7.15 on Radio Derby about the Ridley Scott commission and during the day I was packing up the bowls which are all ready to go now. I am pleased with them but they do look a bit drap since they wanted them untreated so that it will be easier for the props guys to age them.
Then when arranging collection I found out that the film has been put on hold due apparently to the actors strike. They hope they may be able to film in November but it all sounds a little up in the air. They still want the bowls but there is no certainty I will ever get to see them on the big screen.
Well that’s a bit disappointing – crossing fingers that the movie will be made, and that your creations will be shared with the world that way…Mungo
That IS depressing. It might yet work out, though. There are a lot of big names attached to the film already and the problems seem to be temporary (judging from the news reports).I’m loving your book, by the way. In it you talk about how people used to hold bowls in their hands when they ate from them rather than putting them on a table, and looking at the illustrations reminds me a bit of my grandparents who were farmers: they ate with their farm-hands from large platters of food at a large table and held their bowls in one hand (though they used plates, too). My father still eats his morning cereal that way. Maybe it’s the rural connection? Not sure, but it is fascinating to see the patterns of human habits through the ages. Good stuff!
