I don’t think I have posted anything on the blog yet about my wife Nicola’s research. here is a video overview.
So whilst many of our friends know Nicola as a spooncarver by daytime she is Dr Nicola Wood of Sheffield Hallam University and conducts research into how craft skills and tacit knowledge are handed on. She is particularly interested in finding ways to preserve and share craft knowledge using multimedia, the web, video etc. Her most recent project has involved working with some of the last traditional folding knife makers in Sheffield.
This is her website http://www.nicolawood.net/
I’m so glad you posted something about this–her work is fascinating. Here is proof that academia is not all dust and footnotes and obscurity! Oh, and happy St. Katherine’s Day (patron saint of woodworkers, spinners, and lacemakers, etc.)!
No dusty academia for Nicola for sure. And St Catherine is patron of turners too, the worshipfull company have a wheel on their arms.
