Yesterday Darren the blacksmith brought my gate back. It took him a lot longer than he expected but I am very pleased with the result.
Today I have been working on a bench. This is for a local National Trust property, it started as a an order for a copy of my Charlton on Otmoor bench but when I visited the site I felt it was not really so apropriate, it is quite an exposed spot and it is a very stoney place with lots of dry stone walls. So I did a redesign which the property managers liked and it gives me the chance to work with another local craftsman Geoff the dry stone waller. This is hte wooden part I was working on today, all locally sourced oak.
And this is my design which shows how it will look when finished. We hope to fit it next week.
That’s a lovely gate. Nice work, both of you.
Can’t believe I haven’t found your blog before – that bench is fab – perfect in fact.
Thanks for the comments, looks like we might get some grim weather this week so I may hide in the workshop making bowls and fit the bench the week after.
