Last December I wrote about a very special scissors factory in Sheffield here. Yesterday I went back to do help them take photographs for their new retail website. I am not a photographer but I have learned simple ways of using natural light and a simple background to show this sort of product off reasonably well. It is also quick and easy for them to do photos themselves as the range changes too. Nearly every home in Britain will have a few pairs of cheap plastic handled scissors but for around £20-£25 we could have nice hand made ones that feel good in the hand and cut beautifully.
These ones are candle snuffers, not sure how much demand there is for those today.
These are left handed scissors, I always thought that the only difference would be in the shaping of the handles but the blades are the other way round too, if a left hander uses right handed scissors the top blade stops you from seeing the line you are cutting.
I know a few folk that will be getting a pair of these at Christmas.
And this pair was my present to bring home, an honest working pair of scissors and a true piece of Sheffield craftsmanship.
Nick Wright is the 5th generation of Wright’s in the business and is hoping to market some scissors direct rather than selling everything wholesale, sadly they are currently short on orders and working a three day week. There are so many people out there making such quality products and they can often be so hard to find. Keep up the good work.
