This looks like the method that a master wood carver named Mooney Warther pioneered. He cut an entire plier tree of over 500 pliers from a single block of wood. Google him for more of his works.
Very cool. Seems like a neat trick for showing off at parties. Is there much practical use for a tool like that? Even if not, I still think it’d be worth being able to amaze people with it.
Sure, you can make yourself forging tongs if you start with a somewhat longer piece of iron wood.
Nice demo, Robin, thanks for digging it up and sharing it.
great starter project for kids as an intro. to hand crafts. Way better than the wooden propellers for wind vanes that I used to make. Ernest and David must have interesting minds.
no! awful idea for kids intro! that’s so funny you posted about this. i just did some. it took 6 tries. it’s really freakin’ hard. way harder than ball in cage or chains. good old whittlin’ puzzles.

This is his son.
Simple, but genius.
Love it.
I’m off to buy some band aids.

Definitely get the plasters and remember basic safety! got to the 8th cut but unfortunately split my finger instead! still great fun though!
