COMPETITION CLOSED
and the winner is……..Richard Eadon
Submitted on 2015/02/13 at 7:15 pm an email on it’s way. Thanks everyone else for playing along.
Would you like a gorgeous set of woodcarving tools for free? Well here is your chance. My spoon carving tools starter kit proved incredibly popular in the run up to Christmas. The axes have been out of stock for a while but the great news is they are back, or will be next week. I promised I would give the first axe of the next batch away but I am going one better and giving away one of my spoon carving started kits. These are the three tools that you need to set spooncarving, a razor sharp axe, straight knife and curved knife for hollowing the bowl. The kits are normally great value at £82 plus P&P but this one is completely free. All you have to do is make a comment in the comments box below the blog post here and it would be great if you would share the post on your social media facebook etc. Thanks. The competition runs until next Tuesday night (12pm GMT) and I will post the kit to the randomly picked winner as soon as I have the axes which may Be Wednesday. If you sign up for my newsletter or subscribe to my blog then you’ll be around for future giveaways and be the first to hear of new tools and woodworking projects. Good luck and happy carving. If you miss out or would like to buy a kit anyway they are available here
The give away includes free worldwide shipping and is only open to folk over 18.
Having set this off I now realise I have to approve each post and am not going to be around for much of the weekend, don’t worry if your post does not appear straight away, they are all saved and will all appear when I am back at the computer.
Lets just hope Friday the thirteenth (Today) has a luckier ending than it had a beginning!!
Like your videos – keep on doping them

Looks great Robin! Long time fan; I found out about you years ago through the Bowl Turning Techniques Masterclass by Tony Boase. I really like the faceted handles on your axe and hook knife. I’m using Del Stubbs knives right now, and I love the fine handles he uses, but the more I use tools the more I like faceted handles.
This is most generous of you Robin. I’d love to win because then I could share my tools with more folks who want to give spooning a go but are intimidated by the cost.

Steve

Hi Robin,

Greetings from Norway
Marie

The set is beautiful, would love to have my own rather than having to share all the time. Thanks for this opportunity.
I’ve been hankering after one of your fine silver rimmed Quaichs for ages, blatant hints have failed to inspire any of my nearest and dearest to buy me one for my birthday (On Sunday). So I’ll probably end up purchasing one for myself. Winning a nice looking set of new carving tools would definitely make a splendid birthday present should fortune smile upon me.
A well made tool is a thing beauty, form and function.
Great looking tools. Would look forward to the chance to put them to work.
Great vids, I just came across them a little while ago.

Now’t but great!
A beautiful spoon carving tool set. Thanks Robin.
I only discovered your blog about a year ago, and have been very impressed with what I’ve found there, especially the wide range of projects you undertake and your infectious enthusiasm.
I’ve been lusting after your tools for some time too, but haven’t quite felt justified in forking out for them because I already have too many fingers in far too many pies (traditional Scottish farmhouse to maintain). But if a set fell in my lap, as it were, I think I’d find a way to make the time – especially as our 2 acres of trees furnish a good supply a various timbers.
So thanks for the splendid opportunity.
Amazing
These look amazing I’d love to win this set.
Think of all the spoons!
Count me in as well. I recently had a look at a few of your older spoon carving videos, which are almost magically more educational now that I’ve got some experience. Thanks for your generosity then as well as now.

My god these are beautiful!
I’ve been following the Facebook spoon carving group with interest for a couple of months now, and I’m tempted to get started on this kind of work. The right tools can make a great difference.
I would love to get real tools to use for my carving and not only the cheap ones I have now.
This would be a great for when friends want to have a go without having to let them use my set.
I’d love a set.
Axes! Want!
Nothing makes new, lifelong, devoted, friends like giving away Robin Woods tools. I bought one of your spoon knives about a year ago, in a group buy on the west side of the pond. It disappeared in the mail from the group buyer, and you ended up sending me a replacement. Unexpected and welcome.
That knife redefined sharp and well made before I even got it handled. Can’t even imagine what a whole set would do for me.
If I don;’t win the drawing, I just don’t know what I’ll do. Guess I’ll just have to order a set!!
I would be glad 🙂
I sure admire these tools, it would be awesome to win them
A superb set of tools, I find my GB carving axe a little heavy so would love to give your axe a workout, and your hook knife looks amazing.

Thank you for sharing your talents with us via the internet. I have been somewhat “under the weather” for over 2 years now and inspired by your videos and blog started building a bowl lathe to give myself a chance to look forward and not dwell on negative things that I can’t control. Still have a ways to go until my first blank is turning, but just finished my first hook tool and it motivates me even more to get on with the rest of the lathe. I have also started to use the spoon I carved years ago and found I might have to try a few different forms/styles so a chance at winning your fine Spoon carvers set would be really nice.
Wonderful give away!
your videos are absolutely great to watch!!!!
Would love to see some more videos if possible.
You are an amazing video person with your carving.
Quite a generous thing to do! Indeed if I win I will find some way of “paying it forward” in some way with my woodworking!

new to the newsletter – great information on your blog
I am just two weeks into my learning of spoon carving and pages deep into the archive of your blog. I have no tools to keep myself busy yet, but I’ve gathered wood from the forest and tried to see spoons hidden in the shape of branches. Your tools seem familiar to me, I remember them all neatly placed on my grandfather’s porch back home in Romania. Of course they’re not the same ones but they could as well be. I am not a skilled carver and a perhaps I’ll never be. But I’d most certainly love to try.
Love to try your new axe! enter me in
wouks love this set as I am trying to learn so I can teach my Scouts.
if I had these I could teach someone else how to carve a spoon
a very knowledgable man,top class!!
Your spoon knives are everything they are cracked up to be. I’ve been hanging out for one of your axes. Thank goodness they are nearly here. When can i put in an order???
mmm, these tools look so handy that even as a novice wood hacker I think i could get busy, maybe even make a spoon. I have a few rather lovely ones to use to inspire me,,, 🙂

I love your work, and your most recent videos were very helpful! I’ve been working on building a lathe, using yours and Peter Follansbee’s as inspiration. A post about your lathe would be very interesting.

Don’t really know why I’m entering….. I do like carving with my scouts and don’t own my own tools. But fear the chances of winning are very slim after all the scrolling I had to do. To leave this comment . But God loves a tryer and if your not in you can’t win. So stuck my name in the old hat too p.s shared on fb
What a great opportunity for an excellent set of wood carving tools. They do look rather nice too.

The set would make for a nice way to pass a cold snowy winters day in front of the wood stove, though the lady of the house may not appreciate the wood chips, she’d love some hand carved wooden spoons.

This would be awesome to have my own tools to use while mine get used up by my students
These tools are so beautiful. The photograph makes me want to pick them up and handle them. Yes, the handles are inviting. I can already imagine the spoon I would make. I think I have to get a set even if I don’t win the competition.

you sir, are a scholar and a gentleman! Here’s hoping my luck is better than normal!!
Just built a bodgers bench. Be a good set of tools to compliment it. They look nice.
O shiney things of metal and wood – once please lord, a spoon that’s good ! A bowl to make my hearts desire, not simply a lump, destined for the fire… A cup that holds a tot of Rum, to pass around the faces glum, a bow to shoot my arrow true, just once please lord, I ask of you 🙂
No wonder I didn’t win the axe…. I posted my comment on Facebook instead. Now….. I am wondering if I know of any ‘hackers’ (pun intended) that can delete all of these other comments. hmmmm?
I’ve heard so much I’d love to find out for myself!
Those tools look absolutely beautiful! I would love to pick up spoon carving, but being a student the tools have been too expensive. Now this great opportunity has arisen! Fingers crossed 🙂

Thank you for this chance, Robin. These are beautiful tools, and you are very generous to do this.
im a newbie to carving, I bought a Swedish carving knife and I’m using an old hatchet I found, handled and sharpened.
I’m making spoons and trying to make carved bowls.
I’d love to have the correct tools for the job!
Bravo to you sir no matter who you choose! It’s people like you who will make a difference in this world.
I just started spooncarving with a friend around maybe a month ago, so far it has been a ton of fun. Though it would be alot better with better tools, instead of the ones that I forged. I’ve gone onto youtube and watched tons of your videos on everything to do with woodcarving, they’re a super inspiration, and tons of help. I would love to win this set of tools. Thanks for everything you do for the woodcarving community.
-Schaeffer

I have to say, it’s friday the 13th, and a sort of anniversary for hubby and I (we got married on a Friday the 13th) – he comes from a family of woodcarvers, and was looking for a set of tools to start learning the craft himself – these would make an excellent anniversary gift!

Your work and writing have been a source of inspiration for me for some time. Thank you for all the information you have taken time to share through your blog. So generous to now be giving away tools! Thank you!!
Great website! Found it by chance. Nice tools for carving. Would like to try my hand at a new woodworking skill. Thanks for chance
It is amazing what you can do if you have the right tool for the job.
took me a solid minute to scroll through my competition, but here’s hoping that Friday the 13th is my lucky day! Got my fingers crossed hoping to win this one.
I started carving spoons in 1984, but it was off and on until I found your wonderful blog. I have been active , but I am in need of good tools. Here in Colorado I carve oak, aspen, chokecherry with some pine thrown in. Thanks for all your knowledge over the past years. Hartley
A quality set of beginners tools for a novice spoon carver would be great. I hope Friday the 13th is lucky.
I don’t have nearly enough hobbies already, and could use one more! Beautiful work you do sir!
That offer sounds better than an anonymous valentine and your articles look like essential reading so I have signed up !!
With great form comes great function. These look like really excellent tools to get the job done and it would be a privilege and honour to own them
Last time I made a spoon I was drunk. I had to sand the bloodstains out.

Being able to touch and use and learn through using a set of tools hand crafted and loved into existence based on an age old tradition by a true magician, inspirer of beauty as well as a legend in our time would ensure each spoon hidden in the wood could be freed like the gift it is.
it would be so good to see this set appear in the land Down Under so that I could show my woody friends that a damn great set of green woodworking tools does not have to be expensive… and especially this one as quality is not skimped on at all… brilliant designed tools Robin… just need to add a Twca Cam to the inventory 🙂

WWB
wow! This is a mighty fine giveaway! Some beautiful things there!
Would be an honour to use such wonderfully constructed tools
I have just started a project in 5th grade public school where I am a teacher in woodcraft. The 11 years old children are cutting their own plates or bowls in birch, they have cut down in te wood themselves. We are using tools simular to yours and gouges as well. It would be fantastic to add some more tools to our collection of only 2 axes, 4 round knives, 14 ordinary knives and 6 gouges for 14 children-many regards from Copenhagen DK
This would be the next step, taking my tinkering that weekend bit further. Fingers crossed.
Got my fingers crossed, would love to compare your axe with my Gransfor
Amazing looking tools, just what I’m looking for.

I’d love to get my woodcrafting skills up to scratch with this set!
This would be a lovely end ro my birthday weekend, I should have sobered up by Tuesday. Look forward to making spoons with this kit.
I have just started green woodworking/spoon carving and where I live in the US when I tell people about it they look at me like I am from another planet. It is hard for me to describe the closeness to the wood while o am carving and shaping it. I find it very satisfying. These tools would would be such a great improvement over the junk shop versions I have currently.
I must admit I am really tempted to buy one of these kits. It would make like simpler at Scouts
Thanks for the chance to get this nice set of tools!

I love wood, always have – there is just something special you feel when working with it. I have been following several spoon sites for quite a while and although I am not currently a spoon carver, I have wanted to be since seeing some awesome spoons at a local antique mall a few years ago. Unfortunately, because I am now retired and on a fixed income I have not been able to afford the tools that I have seen online and have been unable to find any in my local area of the Mid-South US available. I would love to be considered for your starter kit….I even have various woods I have been collecting stacked and waiting when I have the opportunity to start!
Would love a set of carving tools. Have been hinting at Christmas time but no luck yet. Thanks for your blog and posts.

Best regards! Papa Bear!
I am making , (and occasionally selling) wooden spoons here in France using adapted knives.

Long time lurker here, would love to get my hands on these tools!
Wonderful artwork will be created by these tools. A motivation to learn a new craftmanship.
My late grandfather loved wood and all that could be done with it. He used to say that it was ‘warm’ and just because it was no longer a tree, didn’t mean it was no longer ‘living’ and carving and building with it merely gave it a new sense of life. I would live to win this awesome pack to continue on the traditions of my grandfather!
Oh they look fab! Would love to win them!
Wow… looks like a great set of woodcarving tools…
Amazing and beautiful stuff!
Lovely looking kit, great giveaway!
Wow Robin, so much interest in spoon carving!!! The in thing. If I win, the set it will be going to my nephew to get him started.
Here am I looking for inspiration on how to go about learning to carve a spoon, and the minimum kit I will need, to share with my daughter on our first wild camp in the woods this summer… What do I stumble across, your site, plus this competition! Seems serendipitous, but even if we don’t win, you have already proved to be the inspiration I was after, thank you.
I would love carving spoons with these tools!
Great, I love new adventures. Carving!!
~!~ WOW ~!~ I only dream about what I can make with my wood finds. Carving with a Cutco paring knife & melon scoop just doesn’t hack it… no pun intended 🙂
840:1, great odds to win fine tools.
I just carved my first kuksa today, out of kiln-dried ambrosia maple. If my hands are up for more punishment, I’ll attempt my first quaich tomorrow. These carving axes would cut the shaping time in half… I’ve been using a roughing knife for the bulk of it.
There’s a nice windfall crook on my street begging to be a spoon – pick me!
Thanks for sharing all your work and for this contest. Very inspiring stuff!
Love the tools! would be stoked to win!
I see the odds are long, but I am glad to see you have so many followers!
This kit has been on my wish list for a few months now. The quality looks great.
The tools look great, I have a real bad axe and a not so good knife. It would be super to win.it also would be great to see sharpen tools
Today for Valentine’s my sweet husband Buzz Coren gave me a beautiful hand carved rhododendron spoon with a carved heart on the end that he made. I know he would love to have a set of your tools. What a wonderful surprise that would be for him.
Fine looking tools indeed – sent many to Australia?
I have always been amazed by craftsmen who could take natural materials and convert them to tools . You appear to be good at what you do .
Long time reader/lurker. I love the work you do and have been looking at getting some carving tools recently. I guess now I’ll have to wait to see if I win this!
Holy bejoly I just did a lot of scrolling! Obviously worth it, of course…

Glad to hear the axes are going to be back in stock! Thanks for having this contest.
Would love these as part of my Bushcraft kit
Beautiful tools! I’ll take a chance…
Last autumn I spotted two plum trees in my neighbourhood which where heavy with fruits. I baked tons of plum cakes with these fruits. No one else was interested in picking, because the trees were planted on the grounds of a municipal administrative building. Three days ago the trees were cut due to fungal infestation. I hate to see any tree go, but since I found about greenwood working and since I came across your blog, Robin, I know what to do now – turn the tree into spoons! And your carving kit would be much appreciated for doing this job (and many others I already have in mind). Thanks for being so inspiring!
I also would love to win these fine tools, thankyou for this wonderful opertunity , and keep up the fine work.
I have really got in to spoon carving and whittling. It would be great to have more tools. Glad to have found your blog and look forward to reading. 🙂
Such an awesome giveaway
Your tools are lovely, any carver would be proud. Thanks for promiting the craft. I will do my best to keep carving and let all my folks know about your superb craftsmanship! I wonder how your knives would feel cutting into the notorious mesquite wood of the Sonoran Desert. Hmmmm.
I would love these. I have similar tools that I will give away if that kind of bribery will tempt the fates…..
Real tools, no electrical power required, designed and commissioned by a master craftsman. This is the Right Stuff.
I was just actually coming to the website to see about buying an Axe, let luck decide.
I’m so glad I found your blog Robin.
It’s so refreshing to find quality craftsmanship thriving on the Internet and I will be passing on your blog details to my students at Hereford College of Art. Fantastic!

Kind regards
Tom
I want to be a master craftsman and these tools would be my first step towards my goal.
I need these !!!
These tools look awesome! Thanks for offering this giveaway! I would love to add them to my beginners spoon carving collection.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to win some
High quality tools.Personally speaking this is the only way
to have and use them .
Having been obsessed with wooden spoons for several decades, I realised how much fun it would be to make my own. Last year I went on a course and was very much hoping I’d get some tools for Christmas. I didn’t, so this set would make me very, very happy and mean I could start whittling at home.
What a generous offer! Thank you Mr. Wood – you are always an inspiration. Good luck to all.
Great chance to win some great tools, cheers Robin
Those tools look great.. Perhaps it’s time to diversify from turning!
I’m game
loving the pics, would love to have them in my hand though
I like spooning
would give these to the wood-carver in my life – his last name is wood so i think it would be perfect!
Count me in!
Great site. I just finished my first spoon. It’s pretty ugly, but it’s a start 😉
I am hoping to revive peoples interest in woodland crafts here in Australia – and your website is a great reference point. Your spoon carving kit would be a great set to inspire people with.
Hi -hope I’m not too late to enter… But if I am it’s ok. I enjoy browsing to your blog. I’ve been inspired by your work. Actually took my first carving class last fall. Thanks for your posts.
Very generous. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.
Good looking set!
Hooray for spoons!
Great site, love the curved spoon knife that I purchased last year. Have made many spoons but would love to win the kit to start my kids carving.
I need an axe to grind!!
Love your work and your blog. Here’s hoping I get lucky. Thank you.
Wow, I can’t believe my luck. On my first visit to your site I find you giving away the tools to make a spoon. That’s been on my list for 5 years now and I’m just looking into getting the tools now (thus how I wound up here)!
I’m also aspiring to carve and chisel away at some wood I’ve found to make some furniture for around the house an my classroom. A sharp axe would most certainly help there too!
Looks like a great set!
Lovey idea – a nice twist on the lucky dip. I’m crossing my fingers
Hurray for Toon Spools!
Here’s to being random – or at least randomly chosen.
Joking aside, it would be an interesting challenge to try out craft in wood, certainly a reductive approach which is the opposite to my trade as a traditional smith. Hopefully never to old to learn new tricks.
Good luck to everyone from a sunny mid Wales this morning.
Great set of tools. 🙂
Lovely tools. ….
What a brilliant giveaway. Hope I break the habit of a lifetime and win this one as I’ve got plenty of wood waiting to practice on.
Thank you so much for the chance to win the carving tools. I started carving just 6 weeks ago and am hooked.
I too would like to try my luck.. from Japan 🙂 I saw your book when I joined Mike’s development week last April. It left me a strong impression…
You can never have too many tools, and that light weight axe could be just what i need at the moment.
You can never have enough tools and that light weight axe could be just what i need at the moment.
Lovely tools, you can really see and feel the hand that made them, something you can really make you’re own too . Great stuff!
Oh lucky me when I could win these beautiful tools!
Thanks for the opportunity! I’ve been practicing axing out blanks but I need a hook and carving knife to finish the job! My sheath knife is a bit clunky for carving.
Love reading your blog. I don’t have proper tools, so these would be a treasure. Good luck everyone!
Love the blog and videos. Would love some new tools as well!!
please pick me and send wonderful kit to France.
Merci.
These would do nicely 🙂
Just wanted to thank you for all the great posts! Great writing and great topics. I am a green woodworker in my spare time and have learned much from the blog about quality tradition and culture. I especially love the off topic subjects. I loved the “Glass India” video find and I was able to talk with my slightly older brother in law from Ipswich, England about the “New Boots and Panties” post! Cant wait for the next post!
I hope I have some of Dan’s luck, two winners from the same carving circle would be great
Wow, this is very generous of you Robin! Thank you. I could never afford to buy something like this. Hope I win! 🙂
I have given up trying to make my own YouTube education is nothing like the real thing – time for proper training or just buy some professionally made tools
I would love to win these!
would love these for my love.
What a fantastic opportunity. A kit like this could be the start of something beautiful. 🙂
Thanks

Those are some wonderful tools and this contest might be what I need to get me back to carving some spoons. It’s been a few months due to a move and lack of space. Thank you for doing this contest and congrats to whoever wins, you will be getting some Quality tools!
Robin,
Count me in! This is a very generous prize!
Beautiful tools, they are on my list to buy, if I don’t win that is!
Yeah, me too!
I hope I’m not too late. Thank you for such a generous giveaway!
A beautiful kit, it would be a joy to win one! Many happy days of carving 🙂
Dear Robin,
Ce kit a tout du Kit parfait.
J’espère jusqu’il n’y aura pas de barrière de la langue entre nous et que la traversée du Chanel ne lui fait pas peur 🙂
Merci pour ce beau moment d’espoir où tout est permis.
Olivier
These look like very beautiful and useful tools! I would love to start spoon carving!
Greetings from snowy Boston. 🙂 We don’t have a lot of dry wood up here but I’m looking forward to carving in the spring!
All the best!
Hi Robin,
Great tools and terrific turning. Now I just have to learn how to carve spoons 🙂
Hay Robin! Hope you come back stateside soon. I have been talking with Jarrod. Hope to have him visit the Finger lakes this summer. Love what you are doing with tools…making and creating!
A wonderful addition to my arsenal; thank you for the opportunity.
What a wonderful GAW! I have been wanting to try spoon and bowl carving!
These are very fine tools. I have noticed that beautiful tools inspire the work they are used for.
What a cool idea, thanks for the chance.
I’d love to win this… Especially the axe and the more closed bent knife. If I do win them, I’ll save you the shipping and pick them up at spoonfest. If not I’ll pick them up the next time I see you which will probably be spoonfest. All the best Robin.
