I make hook knives for spooncarving and teach how to use them on courses so thought it might be useful for folk to have a video of how I use a hook knife to carve the bowl of a spoon. I have broken the various grips I use into three basic grips which form a good foundation and allow you to quickly and safely create crisp clean spoon bowls.

I really enjoyed the video using the spoon carving knife. Until today I didn’t know that there was such a thing! I’ve carved wood spoons for many years and have always used a small hatchet, rasp and gouge. Plus plenty of sandpaper. I’m so glad I saw your show. Soon I hope to be getting one of those knives!
